Sketch: Shadow Falls on the Big Barn
This quarter-sheet sketch is a preliminary study for a painting of what we used to always call the Big Barn (next to the Little Barn, of course) on the farm in Victor. Some of my earliest memories are of my mother pulling out huge burdocks by the base of that tree as our family reclaimed the deserted and overgrown fields of the farm. I'm deliberately working here with a limited palette of ultramarine blue, burnt sienna and alizarin crimson to see how unified an effect they can create.
Watercolor, 9x12-3/4 in.
