BODHIDARMA AND THE FRUITS OF PRACTICE. This is my first charcoal /pastel pencil drawing completed in the Brian O'Neill core drawing class. Bodhidharma, or the First Patricarch, (figure on left) brought Zen Buddhism to China in the fifth century; he's shown holding one slipper in his hand. Other items in this are a bronze sculpture of a meditator that used to belong to Roshi Phillip Kapleau, my great grandfather's Civil War cannonball, a glass marble, a white geode from my personal collection, and a ceramic flower from Mexico that was a gift to me. Pencil drawing in charcoal/white pastel/colored pastel pencils on paper, approx. 18x18 inches.
